Are you an experienced and visionary leader in public health management? The Gauteng Department of Health is seeking a dynamic Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead Helen Joseph Tertiary Hospital in Johannesburg on a 5-year fixed-term contract. This pivotal role requires a strategic thinker with a proven track record in managing large public health institutions.

Helen Joseph Tertiary Hospital is a vital healthcare facility serving the community of Gauteng. As CEO, you will be at the forefront of ensuring the hospital provides efficient, effective, and high-quality clinical and administrative services, aligning with national and provincial health priorities.

Job Purpose

The Chief Executive Officer will provide strategic leadership, direct, and coordinate the efficient delivery of clinical and administrative support services. You will be responsible for enhancing operational efficiency, improving health outcomes, and ensuring sound governance and financial management within the hospital.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement the hospital’s strategic plan in line with national and provincial health objectives.
  • Financial Management: Oversee revenue maximisation, budget adherence (PFMA compliant), and prudent management of financial resources, assets, and risks.
  • Facility Management: Ensure optimal management of the institution’s infrastructure, equipment, and support systems to facilitate excellent service delivery.
  • Human Resources Management: Develop and maintain effective HR policies, promote a healthy work environment, and lead personnel development initiatives.
  • Procurement & Supply Chain: Implement fair, transparent, and cost-effective procurement systems for goods and services.
  • Clinical & Corporate Governance: Ensure high standards of patient care, establish community networks, report to the Hospital Board, and manage institutional risks.
  • Represent the hospital authoritatively at provincial and public forums.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and be willing to work extended and irregular hours as required.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 Certificate.
  • An appropriate Degree (NQF level 7) in a health-related field.
  • Current registration with the relevant professional body.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of management experience in a public health institution.
  • Valid Driver’s Licence (with exceptions for persons with disabilities).
  • Computer literacy.

Remuneration Package

R 1,436,022 per annum (All-inclusive remuneration package). This is a Salary Level 14 appointment.
