Business Partner (Human Capital Management) – University of Johannesburg

About the Opportunity

UJ is seeking a dedicated Human Capital Management (HCM) Business Partner (P7) for a temporary 2-month post within its HCM Business Partnering Division. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a dynamic educational environment in Johannesburg. This role is classified as an Employment Equity (EE) position at a skilled level, offering market-related remuneration.

Key Responsibilities of an HCM Business Partner

As the HCM Business Partner, you will be the crucial link between the HCM division and UJ’s Faculty/Division Managers and employees. Your primary goal will be to deliver effective and efficient HCM services aligned with UJ’s strategic needs. Key duties include:

  • Acting as a strategic advisor to business leaders on all HCM-related matters.
  • Collaborating with managers to identify team needs and develop HCM solutions that boost employee engagement, productivity, and retention.
  • Implementing HCM strategies, policies, and programs, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Leading talent acquisition efforts, from workforce planning and sourcing to interviewing and selection.
  • Partnering with the learning and development team to identify training needs and foster a culture of continuous learning.
  • Providing guidance and support for performance management, employee relations, and conflict resolution, promoting a positive and inclusive workplace.
  • Managing and updating HCM database information and personnel files accurately, ensuring data protection compliance.
  • Analysing HCM metrics and data to identify trends, recommend improvements, and support data-driven decision-making.
  • Staying current with industry trends and best practices in human capital, proactively sharing insights with leadership.

Minimum Requirements

Candidates must meet the following essential criteria:

  • An NQF Level 7 Degree in Human Resources Management or Industrial Psychology.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience as an HR Generalist.
  • At least two (2) years of this experience must be in an advisory or business partnering role.
  • A solid understanding of HR principles, practices, and South African employment laws/regulations.
