CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER – HELEN JOSEPH TERTIARY HOSPITAL AT SALARY LEVEL 14 (Five (5) Year Fixed Term Contract Appointment)

The Gauteng Department of Health is seeking a highly experienced and visionary Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead Helen Joseph Tertiary Hospital. This is a crucial leadership role on a five-year fixed-term contract, reporting directly to the Department of Health. About the Role

As the Chief Executive Officer, you will be responsible for the overall strategic direction, leadership, and operational management of Helen Joseph Tertiary Hospital. Your primary goal will be to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of high-quality clinical and administrative support services, improve health outcomes, and represent the hospital at provincial and public forums.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, direct, and coordinate all clinical and administrative functions, working closely with the Executive Management team.
  • Provide strategic leadership to enhance operational efficiency and achieve optimal health outcomes.
  • Develop and implement the hospital’s strategic plan, aligning it with National Development Plan (NDP) and provincial priorities.
  • Oversee comprehensive financial management, including revenue maximisation, budget adherence (PFMA compliant), financial resource planning, monitoring, evaluation, asset, and risk management.
  • Ensure effective business support systems are in place for optimal institutional management and service delivery, including planning and timely maintenance of facilities and equipment.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain human resource policies, systems, and procedures to ensure efficient utilisation of staff and a safe, healthy working environment.
  • Lead staff development and training initiatives to boost organisational performance.
  • Manage procurement and provisioning systems to ensure fairness, transparency, competitiveness, and cost-effectiveness in line with PFMA.
  • Oversee clinical governance to ensure high standards of patient care and establish strong community networks, reporting to the Hospital Board.
  • Manage corporate governance, including infrastructure planning, maintenance, occupational health and safety, and institutional risk management.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and be prepared to work extended and irregular hours as required.

Who We’re Looking For

To be successful in this role, you will need to meet the following requirements:

  • A Grade 12 Certificate is essential.
  • An appropriate Degree (NQF level 7) in a health-related field.
  • Current registration with the relevant professional body.
  • A Postgraduate qualification in Management will be a significant advantage.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of management experience within a public health institution is required.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, regulations, and policies in the public sector, particularly within the health sector and hospital management.
  • A valid Driver’s Licence (exceptions apply for persons with disabilities).
  • Proficiency in computer literacy.

Remuneration

The total remuneration package for this position is R 1,436,022 per annum (all-inclusive).
