About the Role
A leading financial services provider in Johannesburg is looking for a dedicated Investment Credit Analyst for a 7-month fixed-term contract, starting August 2025 and ending February 2026, with a possibility of extension. This role is crucial for managing diverse client portfolios and ensuring credit risks are fully understood, monitored, and managed throughout the loan lifecycle. You will contribute significantly to investment outcomes by conducting in-depth analyses, presenting findings to committees, and collaborating with stakeholders across various regions.
Key Responsibilities
As an Investment Credit Analyst, your main duties will include:
- Conducting critical upfront and ongoing analysis of client businesses to understand, monitor, and manage all investment risks throughout the loan lifecycle.
- Using rating models to assess clients, analyzing financial statements, interpreting complex financial models, and validating assumptions before presenting recommendations to the Investment Committee.
- Performing independent credit analyses for new transactions and client visits during onboarding to ensure robust due diligence.
- Evaluating and continuously monitoring collateral structures and other credit risk mitigations.
- Presenting detailed findings and recommendations to the Investment Committee to support informed decision-making.
- Managing all credit-related matters for a portfolio of clients from pre-approval to post-trade monitoring, aiming for acceptable non-performing loan ratios.
- Performing annual reviews and quarterly high-level risk assessments on client portfolios, challenging credit applications, and conducting stress tests on collateral positions.
- Monitoring country-specific developments (economic, political, regulatory) and reporting aggregate credit exposures at client and country levels.
- Preparing comprehensive credit papers for deal origination through post-close monitoring, ensuring legal structuring aligns with approved conditions and industry best practices.
- Supporting ad-hoc tasks such as minute-taking, responding to portfolio queries, and preparing stakeholder reports.
- Ensuring deals are legally structured in accordance with credit conditions and approvals.
- Conducting stress testing.
- Potentially undertaking minimum travel into Africa if required.
Qualifications & Experience
To be successful in this role, you should have:
- A Degree in Finance, Accounting, or Economics.
- CA(SA) / Audit experience (highly preferred).
- At least 2 years of relevant experience.
- Prior experience in Credit Analysis.
- Experience in Wholesale/Investment/Business Banking.
- A solid understanding of finance and risk-related matters affecting the company.
- In-depth experience in portfolio and risk management.
- Corporate / SME Credit Analyst experience.
- Trade Finance experience (advantageous).
- Africa experience (advantageous).
- MUST BE IMMEDIATELY AVAILABLE TO START.
Essential Knowledge
You should possess strong knowledge in:
- Writing technical and non-technical communications, including developing reports for stakeholders regarding clients and deals.
- Analyzing and improving policies and procedures in line with best practices.
- Analyzing, interpreting, and understanding financial statements and complex financial models, along with accounting practices, legal, tax, industry, and regulatory requirements.
- Collecting and analyzing appropriate data to identify key themes and trends, and taking action on existing or new deals.
- Preparing credit applications, with input from originators.
